Last Saturday night was a great night for all involved with as lots of Chengdu's beautiful citizens descended on the Hemp House to celebrate the arrival of this website. The setting was perfect as at 6pm the sun was out and the sky was blue, not a common site in Chengdu. So with each person handed a free glass of cool Harvest beer upon entry, Dave and Andy got down to the thirsty work of firing up the BBQ. As the crowd increased, the beer garden of the Hemp House was full of people enjoying beer, free Barbecue, the beautiful sunshine and some cool sounds from DJ Tom and Fiete aka Stereo Freeze. Not bad, eh? And the night had barely begun.

As the sun began to set it was time to move inside and check out local folk musician Tree. This was my first time hearing him play but I had heard good reviews about his music. I wasn't disappointed and many of the people around me were pleasantly surprised. Myself and those who were in my immediate company whilst listening to Tree are not the best Chinese speakers in the world, however, we all managed to enjoy his magnificent voice despite the language barrier.

After Tree's performance it was time to head back outside where the sun was down, the air was cool and Gramaphonetics had set up to get our bodies shaking for the first time tonight. The set they played was fantastic, the perfect compliment to a summers evening. The beer garden was full, the band were on form and the dancing began, I couldn't help myself.

With the venue now looking well and truly packed and the atmosphere set it was time to head back inside as it was time for rock and roll, it was time for Proximity Butterfly. The expectant crowd wasn't disappointed as despite some technical glitches the band delivered as always, if you haven't seen this band live yet then I suggest you do so and soon.

With three bands and a few DJs under our belt you would imagine that we would be well and truly spent, not quite. Fueled by Beer Lao, Mojitos and the banging drum and bass sounds of DJ Cvalda we kept on going long into the night. As did many others with Cvalda making sure that the dance floor stayed full. With more than a little help from dbassman and Andy Mac of YoMoFo.

So there you are, all in all a great night, A massive thank you to all the performers who played, each one was great. Huge thanks to A Qiao and all at the Hemp House. Lastly, an even bigger thank you to every one of you who came out. Thanks for the support and hope to see you all again soon.

Leave a comment below and let us know what you thought of the night.

T'was a good night.

Unfortunately Geezer ran out of Harvest Beer. After that you could still exchange your ticket for a beer at the bar but if you didn't exchange your ticket then bring it along to our next party and exchange it then.
